A renowned fetish at Asante -Juaben in the Ashanti region, Nana Otom has suggested that public office holders need to swear by the Oath of deities or shrines before assuming office.
“Politicians are no longer scared of swearing with the Bible or Qur’an and would always lie under the Oath and take their own ways, after occupying their portfolios.
Speaking to the correspondent in an interview, Nana Otom said, Ghana has seen many past governments and Heads of State who come and go, yet at the end of their tenure, the citizens complain and bemoan the lack of quality of life all the time.
According to Nana Otom, the standard of living of the people have barely changed with their toils increasing as most government officials cruise around in super-charged four-wheel drives.
The truth about all these is that during their swearing-in sessions, they are made to swear by the symbols of their religion.
They swear to tell Ghanaians they would be truthful and remained honest at all occasions while performing their duties in favour of Ghana.
Even the President and his Vice also lswear by either the Bible or the Quran and both pledged to defend the constitution of the land and protect the public purse and serve in the interest of Ghana.
But, at the end of their tenure, it is either party ‘A’ blaming party ‘B’ or vice versa.
It is in this view that Nana Otom is declaring that it is now time for politicians to swear by ‘eggs and schnapps’ instead of ‘Quran and Bible to save the nation from wastage of funds and resources.
Nana said to swear with eggs and schnapps is not evil but it is a quick traditional belief that scare people from wrongdoings when task is given to someone for attention.
God is though a supreme being who controls the universe, people don’t fear to use His name to commit crimes, but in the traditional way they believe the powers of the diety can quickly put its venom into action, hence the suggestion with a call on the authorities to preferably swear in public officials with eggs and schnapps, apparently to help curb corruption in the officialdom.
