Kintampo Yam Producers Society Ltd Appeals To Gov’t To Expand Kintampo Market.
The management of the Kintampo Cooperative Yam Producers Marketing Society Ltd have as a matter of national interest, passionately appealed to the government of the New Patriotic Party to touch down to Kintampo and expand the only market which serve the people of Ghana and beyond food produce to help improve their health.
Speaking to the correspondent in an exclusive telepone interview on behalf of the outfit’s Public Relations Officer Mr John Njonam and Queen mother Nana Afia Amea respectively, the Deputy PRO, Mr Yaw Sarpong said the Kintampo Market is a very progressive one, yet it is faced with a lot of challenges.
Sarpong related that considering about the population of the people who engage themselves in trading activities at the market, tension always bounds as the situation calls for expansion exercises to avoid persistent congestion.
According to him, in order to ensure the security of the traders from both local and international against the activities of criminals, the market needs to be fenced.
To realized the agenda, Sarpong hinted that the Society has currently voluntarily contributed and buy seven trips of sand which they would use to start the fencing project.
He expressed regret that in the quest of the Queen mother and his Executives efforts to raise the standard of the market towards job creations, several appeals to the Kintampo Municipal Assembly to lend a helping hands always hits the rocks.
The Kintampo Cooperative Yam Producers Marketing Society Ltd is doing their best to assist the farmers in commercial yam production as well as their security, but we don’t have the power to maintain the “rough” roads they use to bring food stuff to the Kintampo Market for sale, another challenge we are further appealing to the government for urgent attention.
Everyday traders from Ivory Coast, Burkina Faso, Mali and other parts of the country flock in to Kintampo Market with their trucks and load away yams to their various destinations for businesses, Sarpong told our correspondent.
Yaw Sarpong was of the view that if their appeal is given the necessary attention, it will go a long way to help boost business activities in Kintampo to enhance revenue generation into the coffers of the government.
