Kumasi NGO advocates for robust campaign to safeguard domestic animals

The Muslim Executive Foundation, a Kumasi based Non Governmental Organization (NGO) is spearheading an urgent call for a more effective campaign and stringent legal measures to ensure the safety and humane treatment of domestic animals across Ghana.

Alhaji Musa Abubakari Chairman of the Foundation has voiced profound worry over the escalating trend of animal cruelty.

He emphasizised the need for national awakening to protect the creatures we share our lives with.

Speaking to the correspondent on Wednesday September 10 in Kumasi, Alhaji Musa Abubakari highlighted that the current situation is an eyesore and common these days.

He specifically cited instances where fowls are seen trapped by the threads used by fashion designers or tailors in public, left to struggle and suffer without any intervention from passersby.

This neglect, he indicated reflects a disturbing lack of empathy within the society.

The plight of larger animals particularly cattle is equally distressing, according to the Chairman.

He recounted how these animals are frequently subjected to inhumane conditions being tied in the beaming sunshine in trucks amidst rainfall and enduring beatings from a longer distance to the final destination where the animals are sold.

Alhaji Musa Abubakari further condemned the use of unlawful materials to severely whip cattle to the slaughter house, posing a poignant question to society:

If someone treated you in such a manner will you be happy.

Chairman Musa underscored a fundamental truth often overlooked: while we perceive animals as mere creatures stressing that domestic animals possess sense.

He posited that if divine creation had endowed them with speech, such animals will always speak and warn people about the bad treatment given to them.

This observation serves as a powerful reminder of the silent suffering animals endure at human hands.

To curb this growing menace and ensure the freedom and welfare of domestic animals, the Muslim Executive Foundation proposes a two pronged approach.

Firstly, an effective campaign is crucial to educate citizens and foster a culture of compassion and respect towards animals.

Secondly Alhaji Musa Abubakari strongly advocated for the enactment and enforcement of “laws to bound citizens from harassing domestic animals.

In a heartfelt appeal, Alhaji Musa Abubakari called on all Ghanaians to show love for our domestic animals.

More importantly, he urged the government to put measures in place to protect our domestic animals and at the same time bring offenders to book.

He drew a parallel with the advanced countries where such practices have been time immemorial carried out to safeguard the lives of domestic animals to demonstrate that the protection of animal welfare is a hallmark of a compassionate and developed society.

The Muslim Executive Foundation believes that a concerted effort from both the public and the government is essential to create an environment where domestic animals are treated with the dignity and care they rightfully deserve.
