Maintain Professionalism To Raise The Standard Of Herbal Practice – Dr Amofa.
A Kumasi-based Traditional Herbal Practitioner, T/Dr Amofa has observed that herbal medicines are though the most potential and efficacious elements that God originally handed down to mankind to treat sicknesses, certain quacks have been using financial greed to undermine the values of herbs.
Speaking to the Correspondent in an interview, T/Dr Amofa who is the Managing Director of Amof Herbal Centre located at Kumasi Suame Magazine indicated that there are lots of counterfeit herbal practitioners in the country who use their little experiences to dupe the society.
The offices and locations of these alleged fake herbalists, the doctor said could hardly be traced as most of them operate through the social media platforms.
He added that it is against this background, hence the public must be cautious and careful when dealing with herbalists on the social media platforms.
T/Dr Amofa who also doubles as the Public Relationship Officer of the Ashanti regional branch of the Ghana Federation Of Traditional Medicine Practitioners Association (GAFTRA) indicated that to become a full member of the Association to be recognized, one must to have knowledge in herbs, undergoes through the process including training and workshops as well as the acquisition of the Association’s identity card and certificate before an effective operation.
He said there are laws that govern the practice of herbal medicines in the country but when one is not catch up with it, the person may think that he can apply dubious means to trade in the herbs and go scot free.
T/Dr Amofa took the occasion to advise those alleged counterfeit herbalists to note that if they are really interested in the profession they should rather go back for effective training from a qualified herbalists since the laws will not spare them when they are caught in the act of faking herbal medicines for money.
He also advised against bragging herbalists who use their herbal products to make unnecessary noise on their advertisement programs to amass wealth, but instead, urged them to focus on maintaining professional standards to enhance the reputation of the industry.
