Ministerial nominee for the Greater Accra Region, was reportedly faced no scrutiny during her vetting, despite going to be the minister for the capital of Ghana. In reacting to the incident, Ghanaian investigative journalist, Manasseh Azure Awuni shared his investigation on how Linda Ocloo was at the centre of a controversy over claims that a Supreme Court Judge attempted to influence her vote in the 2021 Speaker of Parliament elections.
Manasseh Azure noted that this revelation was documented in his latest book “The President Ghana Never Got”. According to his investigation, Linda Ocloo has alleged that a Supreme Court Judge personally called her, urging her to vote for Prof. Mike Ocquaye instead of the NDC candidate, Alban Bagbin.
Manasseh Azure said the claim was initially made public by the then-NDC Chief Whip Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, who later apologized after Ocloo failed to cooperate with the party’s internal probe.
The investigative journalist said he contacted Linda Ocloo, who reportedly expressed disappointment that some members of the NDC doubted her story due to her reluctance to provide further details. She disclosed that she had recorded evidence of the encounter but refrained from pursuing the matter due to security concerns. She, however, indicated that she might revisit the issue at an appropriate time.
Awuni mentioned that Muntaka, in his interview for the investigation, spoke about a bag full of U.S dollars allegedly brought to Parliament around the time of the Speaker’s election. However, further details on the source and intended purpose of the fund remains unclear.
The resurfacing of these allegations has sparked discussions about political influence and integrity within Ghana’s governance system. While Linda Ocloo has not publicly commented on the matter since her vetting yesterday, many Ghanaians are questioning why the vetting process did not address any of the allegations.
