Moslem Scholar calls for passage of laws to protect animals.

A renowned Kumasi based Moslem Scholar who is the Chairman of the Moslems Executive Foundation ( MEF) in Kumasi, Alhaji Abubakari Musah has expressed worry about the trend in which most Ghanaians maltreat animals, especially the pets we live with them in the society.

He indicated that in order to reverse the trend to ensure the freedoms of the animals , hence he is passionately appealing to the government to pass out a law which will protect the rights of animals in the country.

Speaking to the Correspondent in an interview, Alhaji Abubakari Musa who also doubles as the Managing Director of Basfam Co. Ltd in Kumasi observed that Allah created animals for a purpose which does not only limited to mankind to kill animals and eat, but also to protect human beings in many aspects.

The scholar registered his disappointment that due to lack of understanding about the existence of animals apart from killing them for meals, people takes the rights of animals for granted.

He cited about how importers of cattle, sheep and goats from the up north usually treat such animals badly in a scorching sunshine or rains in the moving long vehicle trucks tightly roped to the southern part of the country for sale.

That was not all, he further mentioned about how fowls among other pets are usually trapped by the damaged threads used by tailors.

Other harmful objects he said are also cruelly used to harm animals in our homes, he noted.

The man of Allah noted that a country whose citizens abuse the rights of animals, but yet only prefer to eat their meat never progress because Prophet Mohammed and for that matter othe scriptures advise people to love animals instead of treating them in a cruel way.

Alhaji Abubakari Musa who is also a key Rice Distributor for Tamaana Co Ltd,( a reputable rice production company in the Northern region) in the Southern Sector pointed out that animals are important to the society to such an extent that government had to import snakes from Kenya to Wa in the Northern region in 1987 to help scare squirrels that were disturbing seeds from germination as a means to help farmers to grow their crops.

Alhaji Abubakari Musa contended that due to the importance attached to the animals hence the advanced countries have passed out a law to protect animals, and with such laws the countries continue to grow.

The way we treat our animals are bad and that if we are in the advanced countries many of us have been in jail, Alhaji Abubakari Musa hinted.

Taking the opportunity to advise Moslems to stop using violence, force or disturbing ways to handle before slaughtering their cattle in the upcoming Edilr Adho festival to ensure blessings from Allah, he hoped that if his message is taken into accounts, it will go a long way to sustain the freedom of the country to attract blessings for the entire citizenry.
