Mussa Danquah reveals party which will win the Akwatia by-election

With less than a month to go before the highly anticipated Akwatia by-election, political tension is heating up as recent polling data suggests a closely contested race between Ghana’s two major political parties—the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Mussa Dankwah, Executive Director of Global InfoAnalytics, shared fresh insights on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, that shed light on the evolving dynamics in the constituency. According to his organization’s latest survey, the NPP currently leads with 49.7% of voter support, while the NDC follows closely with 43.8%. The remaining 6.5% is split among smaller parties and independent candidates.

Despite the NPP’s slight lead, Dankwah cautioned that the contest remains far from decided. “It’s still a competitive race,” he explained, emphasizing that voter turnout and shifting sentiments in key areas like Apinamang could change the tide.

Apinamang, historically a stronghold for the NPP, has emerged as a battleground in the final stretch of the campaign. Dankwah noted that the NDC has intensified its outreach in the area, potentially threatening the NPP’s dominance. “If the NDC continues to build momentum there, it could choke the NPP’s chances,” he warned.

The NDC’s candidate, Bernard Bediako Baidoo, a legal practitioner with a calm demeanor and growing grassroots appeal, has been actively engaging with the youth, professionals, and community leaders. His campaign, according to political observers, is gaining traction at a crucial moment.

On the other side, the NPP is counting on the popularity of its candidate, Solomon Kwame Asumadu, and the party’s established base in electoral areas like Apinamang and Wenchi to carry them across the finish line.
