A domestic dispute between a couple identified as Halima and her husband, Maina, has taken a dramatic turn after the woman formally asked a court to dissolve their three-year marriage, citing infidelity, neglect, and irreconcilable differences.
According to court proceedings, Halima, a mother of one, told the judge she was no longer satisfied with the relationship and believed the marriage had broken down beyond repair. She explained that although the union started on a positive note, her husband’s behavior allegedly changed over time, leading to frequent conflict.
Halima claimed that her trust in Maina was shattered after she allegedly caught him in a compromising situation with their house help. Recounting the incident before the court, she said she saw him “making out” with the maid, but he later dismissed her accusations, insisting he was only assisting the worker after she had collapsed while performing her duties. The incident reportedly led to the dismissal of the house help.
She further told the court that shortly after the episode, Maina lost his job and has since remained mostly at home, taking care of their child while, according to her, “loitering around the house.” Halima described him as irresponsible and ineffective, adding that his conduct and lifestyle had caused her emotional distress.
In his defense, Maina rejected claims that he was unemployed or idle. He informed the court that he is a partner in a hotel business venture with a friend, from which he earns approximately $5,500 monthly. He said he communicates with the business during the day while leaving the child under the supervision of the compound’s gatekeeper when necessary.
The case took another dramatic turn when Halima accused her husband of failing to meet her expectations in their marital life, including allegations relating to intimacy, which she cited as one of the reasons she was determined to end the marriage.
Maina, however, countered with serious allegations of his own, claiming that Halima had been unfaithful and was involved with their gatekeeper. He told the court she was attempting to conceal the relationship while portraying him negatively in order to strengthen her divorce case.
During the proceedings, it also emerged that Maina is not the biological father of the child he had been raising, a revelation that further complicated the matter.
In its ruling, the court granted Halima full custody of the child, recognizing her as the biological parent and primary caregiver. The judge noted that the marriage had irretrievably broken down due to mutual accusations, lack of trust, and ongoing conflict.
The case highlights the growing number of marital disputes reaching the courts, often involving allegations of infidelity, financial disagreements, and paternity disputes. Legal experts say such cases underscore the importance of communication, counseling, and transparency in relationships before conflicts escalate .
