The chairman of the Kumasi Kejetia Mosque branch of the National Democratic Congress (Ndc) Mr. Calistor Musa has made a passionate appeal to the government to financially empower the private sector to import more goods into the country for the sake of economic development.
Addressing the press today Thursday October 30th, Mr. Musa observed that Ghana’s current economic climate presents a unique opportunities for the busines communities to import goods to uplift the economy.
He substantiated his point to the cedi’s competitive stance against the major international currencies such as the US Dollar, British Pound Sterling, Euro, and CFA Franc.
He indicated that with the current cedi performance if more goods are imported into the country with this existing exchange rate prices of goods would drastically come down to the advantage of the citizens whilst business activities would boost to transform the economy.
The NDC Chairman drew parallel to a recent history where instability of price control system leading to price hikes on commodities allegedly contributed to the defeat of the NPP in the last elections.
He attributed this to the previous Akufo Addo administration’s failure to effectively manage the currency for international trade amidst rising commodity prices.
This historical lesson chairman Musah said must not be overlooked by the Ndc government before it is too late.
Musa questioned the nation’s inaction in the face of the current economic realities.
He stressed that if as a country if our currency can compete the currency of the advanced countries why don’t we take advantage to encourage the private sector to engage in an uninterrupted import exercise through financial encouragement to convince them to import more goods into the country for our own benefit.
Musah specifically underscored the significance of the spare parts business as he advocates for financial priorities to be extended to the dealers in the vantage points like Accra Aboseikai and Kumasi Magazine.
Adding that when prices of spare parts escalate it affects the growth of the economy.
Chairman Musa painted a vivid picture of a more prosperous future believing firmly that if more imports are made considering the appreciation of the cedi currency, prices of goods would go down to activate all sectors of the economy.
