The Bono East Regional Manager of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) Mr. Oppong Danquah has revealed that the National Health Insurance Scheme nearly collapsed between 2009 and 2016.
He said this was as a result of the inability of the then government to pay insurance claims which almost compelled some hospitals to return to the traditional cash and carry system of the health care delivery.
Mr. Danquah indicated that the Akufo Addo-Bawumia administration between 2017 and 2024 has undoubtedly paid all Health Insurance claims to respective hospitals up to February this year which according to him, forms part of their contract between NHIS and the hospitals that there should be three(3) months intervals for the payment of claims to the hospitals.
- He stressed that efforts are being made to settle March and April claims as soon as possible. 2017-Bono East regional manager of Nhjs
