The Bono Regional Council of Elders Chairman for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), James Kofi Kyeremeh—popularly known as “Shekinah”—has expressed strong confidence in the party’s chances of reclaiming power in the 2028 general election with Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as its presidential candidate.
Mr Kyeremeh appealed to NPP delegates nationwide to retain the former Vice President as the party’s flagbearer when they head to the polls in January 2026 to elect a new leader. He stated that the Council of Elders in the region is fully backing Dr Bawumia’s bid, citing his broad appeal, strong media presence, proven track record, and leadership experience.
“We are seriously preparing to commence the Election 2028 campaign in the region, and some of us are highly optimistic that Bawumia is the best bet to lead the party to electoral victory,” he said during an interview in Sunyani on Thursday.
Mr Kyeremeh’s comments came during an engagement between Mr Yaw Dabie Appiah Mensah—a prominent NPP figure and a campaign team member for Dr Bawumia—and members of the Council of Elders in Sunyani.
Mr Mensah echoed the endorsement, acknowledging that while all aspirants for the 2026 primaries were competent, Dr Bawumia remained the most visible and marketable. He called on delegates to give him the nod, pointing out that the NPP’s 41 percent performance in the 2024 elections provides a strong foundation to build on.
He also made a financial contribution to support the council’s political effort
