By King Amoah

A Member of Parliament for the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Hon. Collins Adomako – Mensah, has publicly called on former government appointees from the Akufo-Addo administration to promptly vacate their offices and hand over all official properties to the current administration.

The MP for Afigya Kwabre North expressed his surprise regarding the reluctance of some appointees to relinquish their positions, emphasizing that it directly contradicts the basic principles of democratic transitions.

In a strongly worded post on his Facebook page, Hon. Adomako Mensah stated that it should be self-evident to all former appointees that their tenure had come to an end. He argued that they should not require direct instructions to vacate their posts, given the established norms of democratic transitions of power. He stated “As a former government appointee, it is not necessary for anyone to advise you to vacate before you are told to do so because you’re aware you have to pack off and hand over the properties in your possession to the new administration as demanded by the democratic principles.”

He further highlighted that the person who appointed them, former President Akufo-Addo, has already completed the handover process which should be a signal for them, saying “The person who engaged you being Akuffo Addo has surrendered and why are you proving difficult to go home and hand over?”

The MP pointed out that Akufo-Addo had earlier instructed for all government properties in the possession of appointees to be handed over before January 3rd, after the successful completion of their stewardship.

The former Deputy Minister of Energy urged these appointees to comply with the directive, stressing the importance of doing so to maintain the NPP’s reputation and avoid any unwarranted suspicion from the public. He cautioned that a delayed and contentious handover risks casting a negative light on the party.

Hon. Adomako Mensah also emphasized the need for the NPP to begin its strategic reorganization to prepare effectively for the 2028 general elections. He asserted that former appointees should now shift their focus to playing their respective roles within the party’s restructuring efforts.

He stated, “The NPP have responsibilities and you need to go and play your roles towards effective reorganization to face the 2028 general elections.”
