The alarming reports of police intimidation against National Democratic Congress (NDC) members in the Central Region are a stark reminder of the dangers of politicization of law enforcement.
This disturbing trend, allegedly orchestrated by officials of the governing party, aims to silence the opposition and pave the way for unchecked dominance.
The deliberate targeting of NDC members by police is a blatant attempt to suppress dissenting voices and undermine the democratic process.
This culture of fear and intimidation has no place in a democratic society, where citizens should feel free to express their political beliefs without fear of retribution.
The NDC’s resolve to resist this intimidation is commendable, but the situation demands more than just party-level action. Authorities must intervene swiftly to halt the police hostilities and ensure that the rule of law is upheld.
Failure to do so will embolden perpetrators and escalate tensions, ultimately threatening the very foundations of Ghana’s democracy.
Ghana’s democracy is at a crossroads. We must choose between a path of intimidation and fear or one of inclusivity and respect for divergent views. The NDC and all stakeholders must continue to advocate for a free and fair society, where every citizen can participate without fear of persecution.
Together, we can safeguard Ghana’s democratic gains and ensure a brighter future for all.
