President of the Council of Zongo Chiefs tasks prominent chiefs to help restructure the Constitution to enhance rule of law in Ghana.

The President of the Council of Zongo Chiefs at Mpasatia in the Atwima Mponua District of the Ashanti region, Chief Abdulai Mohamed has observed that the country stands the opportunity to build an effective economy if the legislators stand firm to protect the 1992 constitution which protect the citizenry.

Reacting to what he described as a state of lawlessness that have been characterized some of the Ghanaians of late, the Chief noted that if measures are not taken to sanitize the society through the 1992 constitution, the country will soon be ungovernable.

He indicated that lawlessness have eaten deep into the fabrics of the society to such an extent that the politicians who are the policy makers flout the laws with impunity and go scot free.

He attributed the canker to democratic governance where people take advantage of freedom of speech to violate the laws.

He said the 1992 constitution though gives the mandate for freedom of speech, such freedom are usually abused by the people.

And therefore charged the legislators to amend parts of the constitution to help stabilize the economy.

Chief Abdulai Mohamed cited the violations of the laws and vulgar languages that many politicians usually presided over to the contrary to the rule of law.

He stressed that when democratic governance was absent in the country, there was rule of law where cases of dictatorship, pride, and corruption were less heard in the country.

To reverse the trend Chief Abdulai Mohamed passionately called on the prominent chiefs and traditional authorities notably Asantehene, Dormaahene, Gamantse, Yaana among others to meet with the Peace Council, religious leaders and stakeholders to dialogue with the representatives of the political parties.

Such dialogue he said, would be to discuss among others, the amendment of the constitution and new policies that could transform the society.

The Chief observed that unless the prominent chiefs involve in the formulations of the state policies, the country’s quest to build a solid economy would be a mirage since democratic pollution tend to be firm in the society.
