Press Release: Caucus of Matured Democrats Reacts to Ghana Armed Forces’s press statement on their refusal to be present at Polling Stations during the elections day.

The Press Release of the Ghana Armed Forces is rather confusing and deceptive. We all know that all the excesses of the security agencies happened at the collation Centers, but not the polling stations.

All the various shooting and killing in election 2020 were all done at the Collation Centers.

However the assurance press Release of the Ghana Armed Forces is rather pointed to the direction of the polling stations. The simple question is that, is the press release of the Ghana Armed Forces deliberately directed to deceive citizens or it was a clear mistake?

What is rather very clear on the grounds for the Ghana Armed Forces and the National Security to know and understand is that, Ghanaians are not ready to see the military and the National Security personnel anywhere near the polling stations and the Collation Centers before, during and after election 2024.

The Caucus For Mature Democrats (CMD), a Civil Society Organisation setup to advocate for good and accountable governance, places on record for the understanding of the Ghana Armed Forces and National Security that, their services are not required during election 2024.

CMD releases this for the above mentioned state institutions to be very well guided help to prevent the recurrence of the deliberate shooting and killing of innocent citizens as was seen in election 2020, for the first time since our nation’s independence.

In election 2020, the very state institutions and armaments that were meant to protect citizens were the very institutions and armaments that were turned against the very people they were constitutionally and legally mandated to protect.

That was very unprofessional and lawless on the part of the security agencies who perpetrated those excesses.

To prevent a recurrence of the excesses, We therefore call on the Ghana Armed Forces to set the record straight by promising not be seen around both the collation centres and the polling stations as demanded by the citizens of mother Ghana.

CMD has since resolved to be citizens but NOT SPECTATORS.
