Procrastination, defined as the act of delaying or putting off tasks despite knowing that there could be negative consequences, has often been termed the “thief of time” and the “enemy of success.” These descriptors reflect the pervasive impact procrastination can have on individuals, families, societies, and nations. Through procrastination, many critical tasks remain incomplete, leading to significant negative outcomes.

In academic contexts, procrastination can jeopardize examination success. A student who postpones studying until the last minute may find themselves inadequately prepared, leading to potential failure. Similarly, in the professional realm, procrastination can result in missed promotions and career stagnation. Health-wise, neglecting exercises and wellness routines due to procrastination can exacerbate or contribute to serious health conditions. In rare cases, procrastination can even lead to life-threatening situations.

In another scenario, a driver who procrastinates in fixing faulty parts of their vehicle risks getting into an accident, which could result in serious injury or even death. In still another relevant scenario, a homeowner who neglects routine maintenance may face issues such as roof leaks, faulty faucets, and other potential financial damages. Such neglect can lead to serious life-threatening consequences, including structural damage, mold growth, and even fire hazards. These examples of procrastination demonstrate how procrastination in home upkeep and vehicle maintenance can result in significant financial burdens and severe safety risks. They further highlight how procrastination can have severe, sometimes life-threatening consequences, emphasizing the importance of timely action in addressing safety issues.

Okronkronyi Nyame Somafo Yawoh Leader and founder of  Asomdwee Ntonton Som, posits that procrastination is a deliberate scheme created by the devil. According to Okronkronyi Nyame Somafo Yawoh, the devil perceives humanity as his greatest adversary and is determined to undermine human success and wellbeing. He creates and employs various schemes and devices to distract and hinder people, using procrastination as a particularly effective tool. In His teachings, Okronkronyi Nyame Somafo Yawoh asserts that the devil, having nothing of value to offer, shares only the destructive creations and strategies he has devised.

The central lesson from Nyame Somafo Yawoh’s  teachings is to recognize and avoid the devil’s ploys to achieve success. By overcoming procrastination and its detrimental effects, individuals can enhance their productivity and well-being, ultimately leading to greater success and fulfillment.
