Emerging facts trickling this website indicates that the Vehicles & Assets Dealers Union, i.e (Used Car Dealers) stands the risk to collapse, if government fails to reduce taxes on import duties on their businesses.
This is as a result of the ‘unstable’ taxes that coupled with currency depreciation in the country.
And it is consequently steadily discouraging number of used car dealers to fade interest in the business at the national level.
According to exclusive interviews our correspondents had with number of used car dealers in the country, notably Accra, Kumasi, Tema and Tamale, their businesses were improving when the bench mark value on car import duties was pegged at 30 %.
The dealers said they currently can’t cope with the situation when apart from the previous 30 percent duty tax, another 70% was allegedly in disguise imposed on the used car dealers.
Today the car dealers said, they are paying almost 100% import duties on their business activities, which according to them is a systematic scheme to flush out the importations of the used cars from the system.

According to the opinions stressed by others, the frustrations that tend to confront the car dealers can be linked to an alleged government strategy to phase out the used cars in the country.

They stressed that businessmen they hardly oppose government policies on industrialization, yet it is the duty of the government to encourage the private sector to do more to raise the image of the country.
The used car dealers noted that their businesses play a leading role in the country hence the ruling Npp relied on them and purchased number of used cars to carry out their political campaign during the last elections.
In order to help make impact in the country through job creation and revenue generation, the car dealers passionately appealed to the government to reduce import duties on the used cars and see to it that currency appreciation is stabilized.
