Religious Discrimination: A Wake Up Call’ for Muslim Leaders to Prioritize Community Development, Says MEF Chairman.
By King Amoah, Kumasi
Alhaji Musa Abubakari, Chairman of the Muslims Executive Foundation (MEF) in Kumasi in the Ashanti region has disclosed that the recent incidents of religious discrimination against Muslims must serve as a wake up call for Muslim leaders across the country.
He urged Muslim leaders to shift focus towards community centered basic infrastructural development particularly for Muslim students rather than on personal luxuries.
Alhaji Musa Abubakari’s strong remarks come in the wake of a contentious situation where a Christian Mission School in Cape Coast in the Central Region engaged in an open
discrimination against a Muslim student.
Alhaji Musa Abubakari said in Cape Coast the authorities allegedly denied Muslim students the right to practice their religious beliefs stressing that Muslim students cannot impose their faith within a Christian institution.
While the issue awaits for official verdict from the authorities, Chairman Abubakari expressed his gratitude to the Christians for delineating their religious stance, viewing it as an important clarity for Muslim communities in Ghana.
According to Abubakari this forthright declaration from the Christian community must be interpreted as a wake up call’ for Muslims.
As committed Muslims the actions from the Christian circle must be seen as a wake up call for us to initiate development projects for our people, he advised.
He specifically called for re evaluation of spending habits among Muslim leaders by urging them to stop the acquisitions of expensive things including articulators and flashy cars.
Instead the MEF Chairman advocated for a redirection of resources towards vital infrastructure.
It is now time for the Muslim leaders to stop buying luxuries and instead focus on building schools, hospitals among other development projects that can benefit the Muslim communities and the country in general Abubakari emphasized.
This strategic shift, he believes, will empower Muslim communities to provide their own educational and healthcare facilities that can cater for the needs and beliefs of their followers.
Alhaji Abubakari is a successful businessman and Managing Director of Basfam Company Ltd further expanded his vision.
He stressed that while building these facilities it is equally important that every institution established by Muslims should be used to serve all Ghanaians without discrimination.
Be reminded that the school buildings, hospitals among others are nothing but what matters most are discipline, transformation and good manners that can have positive impact on the citizens towards their home call to render better stewardship to Allah (God) after death, he concluded.
