Residents within Kwabre East Municipality at war with the government over environmental issues.
Cross section of residents within the Kwabre East Municipality of the Ashanti region, have threatened to avoid voting in the 2024 general elections if government continuously refuses to solve the environmental challenges that have been confronting them.
According to them, government has treated the municipality very badly in terms of infrastructural development.
They alleged that almost all the road net works in the area are unmotorable, a situation that have been given both drivers, farmers as well as.traders a hell of time to engage in smooth businesses.
According to Yaw Amponsa an opinion leader of Mamponteng, the area have both a Member of Parliament and Municipal Chief Executive, their efforts seem to be negative because no visible projects can be seen in the area expect lip services and shoddy promises.
From our probe number of communities in the municipality lack toilet facilities, resulting to open defication in all over the area.
Our lives are at risk because disease outbreak can occur at any moment from now. a resident of Fawoade told the correspondent.
Stressing that one of their major challenges in the municipality is the manner in which refuse spots have been allowed to get heaped like mountain Afajato.
Madam Akua Afriyie who also cannot hide her feelings registered her disappointment in the government for failing the residents of the area, of whose massive votes helped the Npp party to win the last elections.
Afriyie said though she is a woman, she supports any move from the citizens to embark on a demonstration against the government to help solve the environmental challenges that have been allegedly confronting the area.
We are also resolved to vote out the Npp in the district if our demands are not met before the elections, Akua Afriyie hinted.
