Kumasi, Ashanti Region – Rev. David Armstrong, Founder and Leader of the Mo Mary Fellowship, has issued a strong call to political leaders across Ghana, urging them to prioritize the needs of their grassroots supporters in rural communities when it comes to job opportunities.
In a recent exclusive interview, Rev. Armstrong expressed his deep concern that these dedicated individuals, who form the backbone of political parties and are crucial to electoral success, are often overlooked when it comes to the distribution of jobs and resources after their party comes into power.
Armstrong highlighted that the rural grassroots constitute the overwhelming majority of party membership, providing the numerical strength that drives campaigns and ensures victories. He pointed out that these are the volunteers who work tirelessly, often at great personal risk, to mobilize voters, monitor polling stations, and advocate for their party.
Despite their unwavering commitment and dedication, he lamented that they are frequently sidelined in favor of those from urban centers when it comes to post-election job opportunities.
“This is a form of discrimination,” Rev Armstrong asserted, “and it’s a situation that often leads to frustration, resentment, and even violence within political parties.” He argued that when the hard work and sacrifices of rural supporters are continually ignored, it fosters a sense of injustice and breeds division.
Referencing the recent December 7th elections, Rev. Armstrong detailed instances of party activists, particularly within the NDC, who were subjected to assaults and even lost their personal belongings like phones while vigilantly ensuring transparency at polling stations.
These individuals, he stated, risked their safety without any expectation of personal gain, driven solely by their loyalty to their party. Rev. Armstrong emphasized that these sacrifices should not go unnoticed or unrewarded.
He specifically called on the leadership of the NDC to acknowledge and address this issue. “It is imperative that the top echelons of the party recognize the vital contributions of their rural supporters and prioritize their inclusion when considering job and leadership positions,” he stated.
Rev Armstrong firmly believes that by recognizing and rewarding the hard work of the rural grassroots the political parties will achieve several positive outcomes. He argued that by including these individuals in the benefits of a party’s success, the parties can foster a stronger sense of unity and cohesion, reduce internal tensions, and promote socio-economic progress across the country.
He ended by stating “A unified and empowered party, one that values all its members equally, can effectively drive the nation towards sustainable development for all.y
