Save Ghana Movement Asks Why Airport Projects While The Country Is In Crisis.

A pro- peace advocacy movement based in Accra in the Greater Accra region dubbed,Save Ghana Movement (SGM) who believes in unity, economic development and peaceful coexistence among the citizenry has raised concerns about the reason why the government has shifted its focus on commissioning airports and leaving behind, more challenging issues affecting the country, reports King Amoah from Kumasi.
Speaking to the reporter in an exclusive telephone interview, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Movement Mr Robert Andzie Ansah noted that there are more challenges in the country like joblessness, educational crisis, unstable power supply, collapsing of industries, economic insecurity through the activities of armed robbers, murderers,and illegal miners among others that need attention, but to no avail.
Such challenges in the society, Mr Ansah alleged, are turning lot of Ghanaians into a brain drain citizens who leave the country in search of better opportunities abroad.
Instead of addressing these pressing issues, Mr. Ansah related that the situation has become negative.
Stressing that the sudden turn of the government to embark on airport projects apparently in its efforts to invest in the venture seems baffling at the time where the country have even no aircrafts.
For the fact that l do not entirely oppose to the venture in the airport investment, an amount of money that can be used to complete one airport project can solve our power challenges to ensure uninterrupted commercial and industrial productivities for job creation, the Movement hinted.
Mr Andzie further observed that the provision of airport is though in a right direction, citizens cannot afford air tickets to travel within the country, let alone internationally, a situation the Movement also focused on its arguments.
Linking politics into the airport projects, Ansah alleged that politicians are always influential in pursuing these airport project agendas solely for political gains, especially in the regions where they hope to secure more votes to win elections.
This alleged self-serving agenda,he reiterated underscores a lack of genuine concern for the welfare of the country and called for a change of mindset to avoid public suspicion.
Ghana already have a well-established international airport that serves the country efficiently and given the size of our nation, the proliferation of additional airports seems unnecessary and waste of national resources, the Movement stated
Save Ghana Movement insists that even in a developed country like Ireland, which is significantly noted for its advancement, there’s no excessive emphasis on building multiple international airports in the country.
It is time the country should focus on its resources and pay proper attention to addressing urgent and crucial issues rather than indulging in unnecessary infrastructural projects that would not bring enough income to support the growth of the country, the Movement underscored
