The Upper East Region of Ghana has been hit by a startling revelation from the Ghana Health Services (GHS), indicating that a staggering 2,436 teenage pregnancies were recorded within a mere five-month period (January to May 2025).

This alarming figure was disclosed during a recent crucial meeting involving women and stakeholders who convened to address pressing health issues primarily affecting women, especially pregnant individuals in the region.

The GHS made this distressing information public during the aforementioned gathering which sought to highlight and strategize on solutions for the various health challenges confronting the female population in the Upper East region.

The sheer volume of teenage pregnancies within such a short timeframe has been described by health officials and participants as deeply worrying.

Following the sordid revelations, which were widely described as worrying and terrible pregnancies, attendees at the meeting reached a consensus on the urgent need for action.

It was unanimously resolved that intensive education campaigns must be rigorously enforced across the region to effectively curb this escalating trend.

Among those present and expressing profound concern was Dr. Clement Apaak, the Member of Parliament for the Bulsa-South Constituency.

Dr. Apaak conveyed his deep worry regarding the pervasive issue of teenage pregnancies and pledged to seek ways to collaborate closely with the Health Sector.

His ultimate goal he stated, is not only to mitigate the current crisis but also to ensure that young females are empowered to continue and complete their education thereby safeguarding their future.

The figures underscore a critical public health and social challenge that demands immediate and concerted efforts from all stakeholders to protect the future of the region’s youth.
