State looters must face life imprisonment-opinion poll

State looters must face life imprisonment-opinion poll.

It is now emerging from Ghanaians that they are fed up with corruptions and the activities that tend to draw the progress of the country backward.

The era of military rule is no more, making the citizens to have freedom of speech, work and decision making under the shades of democracy.

But one is tempted to ask on whether the democratic governance is pushing the economy into the stream of progress.

Against this background many Ghanaians have been alleging that the democracy has come to collapse the pride of mother Ghana in that people commit crimes and go scot whilst the development of the country continue to be stalled.

People entrust into sensitive positions allegedly usually loot the state coffers and go scot free, a situation where the military regime would not tolerate or spare.

According to a section of Ghanaians this website spoke to, the county’s only hope can be derived from the Judiciary sector, otherwise total collapse of the country cannot be ruled out.

To realize this agenda, we were told that the judges have to be resolved to remain bold and vigilant and go about their duties without fear or favor.

If judges discharge their mandates as required by law without fear, the retrogressive aspects of the country would be no more, Mr Kofi Asante an economist told our team.

The economist observed that if punishment ranging from 60 years to life imprisonment are imposed on state looters it would scare others from commiting crimes in the society.

John Poku a student lawyer in his contribution, said since the country is not in the military rule, judges have to take lead to give stiffer punishment to national wreckers, looters criminals among others to help sanitize the society for the benefit of the citizens.

Without stiffer punishment to curb corruptions and antisocial vices in the system, our quest to build a strong economy would become a mirage, Nana Eric Arko a media practitioner pointed out.
