Former Electoral Commission Chairperson Charlotte Osei has strongly denied recent allegations concerning the ownership of land she occupies, following claims made by media personality Gabby Otchere Darko. The controversy began after Member of Parliament Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa accused Gabby and his wife of unlawfully acquiring state land to establish their media outlet, including Asaase Radio and TV. In response, Gabby dismissed these claims and provided what he described as evidence to defend his position.
Gabby then escalated the matter by urging Ablakwa to investigate how former President John Mahama allegedly removed public service workers from land near the Asaase Radio site. According to Gabby, this action allowed Charlotte Osei to take possession of the land in question. This accusation prompted a swift and firm response from Osei, who used social media to clarify her stance and refute the claims.
Charlotte Osei stated unequivocally that she legally acquired the land through a commercial transaction in 2007. She criticized Gabby for spreading falsehoods while simultaneously expressing grievances about being misrepresented himself. Osei questioned why Gabby would lie about her when he claims to be concerned about dishonesty directed at him. She also challenged him to pursue legal action if he felt wronged by Ablakwa’s accusations, expressing her own intention to do the same to protect her reputation.
Her statement made clear that she has never benefited from public land, emphasizing the legitimacy of her ownership. The exchange between these high-profile figures has reignited debates over the management, allocation, and sale of public lands in Ghana, particularly when it involves prominent individuals. While Gabby maintains his innocence regarding the land acquisition for his media company, doubts linger among some observers.
As the situation develops, the public awaits to see if the dispute will proceed through legal channels or remain confined to social media exchanges.
