Joy and gratitude filled the office of Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, on Thursday night when Suzy Pinamang, a young Ghanaian who recently regained her sight after a successful surgery in the United Kingdom, paid a courtesy call to say thank you.
The emotional visit marked Suzy’s first stop upon arriving in Accra, accompanied by her caregivers who were instrumental throughout her medical journey abroad.
Mr. Ablakwa, visibly moved, took to Facebook to share the inspiring encounter, expressing his admiration for Suzy’s resilience and determination. “I am so thrilled she can finally see again. I deeply admire Suzy’s fighting spirit and know she’s going to accomplish great things for herself and our country,” he wrote.
The Foreign Minister praised the collective efforts of various individuals and institutions who supported Suzy’s treatment, describing it as a “really inspiring partnership.” Among those he acknowledged were renowned Ghanaian businessman Ibrahim Mahama, Suzy’s dedicated medical team in the UK, Harriet Thompson, the British High Commissioner to Ghana, and staff of Ghana’s High Commission in the UK, along with the Protocol Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
