Tension mounts Assemkrom as 14 illegal miners arrested with residents call for I G P’s intervention.

Information reaching your authentic and widely read,connectghananews.com from Assemkrom in the Aowin Municipal of the Western North Region indicates that tension are high as illegal miners are reportedly invading the community with alleged deadly weapons with the intentions to kill any suspicion residents believe to be an element who is creating impediment on their illegal mining activities in the areas.

So far under the swift intervention of the newly posted Divisional Commander of the Ghana Police Service in Enchi, 14 illegal miners have been arrested and processed for court.

At the Enchi Magistrate court today March 19, 2024, the 14 illegal miners pleaded guilty to the offences preferred against them and they were consequently granted bail for ghc 5000 and one surety each to reappear before the court on April 2, 2024.

Speaking to the Correspondent the spokesperson of the residents, Mr Ali Moro aka Moro indicated that the entire town have expressed worry about the the increasing trend in which galamsey activities have been going on on River Boin.

Ali said police coverage at Jema have led to the arrest of 14 illegal miners who are currently standing trial at the Enchi Magistrate court.

Whilst appealing to the Inspector General of Police to intervene in the continuous harassment on the residents of Assemkrom, he praised the newly posted Divisional Commander for his hard work, loyalty and transparency that led to the arrest and trial of the 14 illegal miners at the Enchi Magistrate court.

Through the directives of the newly posted Commander in Enchi and a petrol team of eight in collaboration with local divers, three chafans were deactivated and sent to Jema Police Station, adding that the miners have imported over twenty chanfas to River Boin and mining with all contempt and impunity, Ali Moro disclosed to our correspondent.

He lament that the attempt of these galamaseyers to mine in the River Ngokoin which will compare them to resort to non existing sachet water for their daily activities a situation they described as a major challenge to residents who are mostly cocoa farmers.

Galamsey activities have destroyed all the water bodies in the area, Moro. asserted.

The spokesperson linked Nananom in these illegal mining activities in the Boin river, stressing that Nananom have been treating reports against the illegal miners with contempt to confirm their intersect in the criminal activities.

Having drawn the attention of the I G P to activities of the illegal miners ,on behalf of the residents, Moro further called on the Municipal Chief Executive, the Regional Minister, and the Regional Police Commander to immediately deploy personnel to dismantle and destroy all the galamsey equipment in the before they (illegal miners) carry them to a nearby communities to do worst things.

Meanwhile when the correspondent. rang some local policemen suspected to have hands in galamsey and some other chiefs linked in the deal for their reactions they refused to be open.
