For a comprehensive understanding of the situation, watch the video below or read the accompanying text, which provides a detailed account of the video’s content.
In an interview on the Good Evening Show on Metro TV, hosted by the Venerable Paul Adom Ochere, the leader of the GRNMA shared a distressing account of their recent experiences.
The organization highlighted the government’s arrogant posture and disregard for the lives of the sick.
As per the leadership’s response to the primary question being championed by the NDC to discredit their strike, Why is this action being taken now, rather than during the tenure of President Akuffo-Addo?Here are their answers:
“In 2020, approximately three consecutive days of a strike occurred during the months leading up to the general elections. Notably, the relevant parties honored the terms and conditions outlined in the service agreement at that time, so it is not true that we have anything against this government “
“This particular agreement, signed with the government in May 2024, stipulated that its implementation was scheduled for July 2024”.
“As the then government was poised to implement the agreement, a section of the nursing profession who were dissatisfied with the terms of the agreement, comprising 88 members, intervened and blocked the process with an injunction through their counsel , Oliver Barker Vormawor, who is a known sympathizer of the National Democratic Congress(NDC)”.
“In December, we finalized the legal procedures necessary for the elections. Subsequently, we patiently waited and communicated with the Director General of GHS, who assured us that once the court case had been resolved, we would implement the plan diligently when the new minister assumes office”.
“The newly appointed Minister, Hon. Mintah Akandor, had assured us that, the agreement will be addressed in the main budget scheduled for March 2025”.
“We engaged in several meetings prior to and after the budget was read. However, the Minister’s repeated deceptions emboldened us to embark on this gracefully and generously rolled out strike with enough room to give the government a chance to avert the strike. Regrettably, they failed to acknowledge our essential worker status and treated us with disdain”.
“We were only informed yesterday at the press briefing by the Minister that, despite the numerous promises, we were not included in the budget and we were shocked to the bone”Consequently, the failure to implement the agreement was not due to the previous government’s actions, as I had previously informed you, but rather from us.
“Media houses can be compensated to disseminate their propaganda, as the truth is evident in the hospitals”
My statement!
In the spirit of supporting these esteemed nurses in their return to work, it is imperative that they acknowledge the repercussions of their decisions.
Their votes carry weight, and they are financially responsible for the consequences of their support for the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Undeterred, they should disregard the insults from this perilous government that solely prioritizes the wealth target it would selfishly achieve during the time and return to save lives because they possess the image of God in their service to this nation. Votes carry consequences.
