In a grand and spiritually charged ceremony, Mr. Oscar Kesse has been officially enstooled as the King of Denkyira under the stool name Odeefuo Boa Amponsem IV.
The colourful and majestic event which took place at Jukwa the traditional capital of the Denkyira Kingdom attracted section of Ghanaian society especially traditional rulers, religious leaders, political dignitaries, security officials, tribal heads among others.
The ceremony described by many as historic and unifying, rekindled the pride in Denkyira’s illustrious heritage.
As part of the sacred rites the new monarch wielded the revered Denkyira State Sword known as Tiahiabua which was first consecrated in 1590,.
The sword is now 435 years old and it is one of the most sacred symbols of royal authority in Akan history.
The Tiahiabua is not merely a ceremonial relic but a spiritual emblem of kingship the very sword once used by Denkyirahene Werempe Ampem in 1624, marking the beginning of a sacred royal lineage that has endured through generations.
Since that 1624 every Denkyirahene who takes the oath of office bows upon Tiahiabua Sword and pledges loyalty to the ancestors to remain faithful to the kingdom.
Every new King also expresses his commitment to the spiritual and political unity of Denkyira.
On the occasion as traditional demands the sub-chiefs and elders (Nananom) also swear their oaths of allegiance to the same sword to symbolize the eternal bond between the throne and its custodians.
The ancient capital of Jukwa came alive with drumming, dancing, and the rhythmic chant of appellations as the people of Denkyira paid homage to their new ruler.
The atmosphere was filled with nostalgia and renewal of peace and unity as elders invoked the immortal spirits of Nana Ayekra Adeboe the spiritual architect and first King of Denkyira
The first King’s philosophies, rituals, and institutions continue to shape the moral and cultural identity of the kingdom.
In his maiden royal address Odeefuo Boa Amponsem IV expressed deep gratitude to the Council of Elders and the Denkyira Traditional Council for the trust and confidence they reposed in him.
He pledged to uphold the enduring values of peace, justice, development and to work tirelessly to ensure that Denkyira remains a beacon of unity and cultural pride within the Akan world and Ghana at large.
The enstoolment of Odeefuo Boa Amponsem IV thus marks not merely the dawn of a new reign but also the continuation of an unbroken ancestral legacy and a living testament to Denkyira’s spiritual strength, cultural authority and divine heritage.
The occasion reaffirmed that the Throne of Denkyira remains the heart of Akan civilization, an eternal symbol of sovereignty, tradition, and wisdom.
