When a 45- year- old resident of Soko, a town within the Afigya Kwabre North District in the Ashanti Region decided to take the laws into her own hands, she never thought that the same laws would grip her one day to face the music.
The resident whose name was simply mentioned as Madam Emelia, on Tuesday January 10 2023 broke into tears at the chief’s palace when a member of the Parents and Teachers Association Madam Katena Ama brought her before the queen mother to answer questions on why she (Emelia) insulted her (Ama) after polluting the school compound with human waste.
According to the P.T.A member, the queenmother (Obaapanin) of the town, Nana Ama Kyaa III had entrusted the laws into their hands to protect the school against sanitation and environmental pollutions.
Katena Ama said in some December last year Emelia who operates behind the town’s basic school was caught in the act of throwing solid waste on the school compound.
Sources said she was then confronted for questions but the trader allegedly took offence with the explanation that the object she poured out from her chamber pot was a waste her child discharged and hardly sees the reason why the P.T.A wanted to disturb her peace over it.
At the palace on the fateful Tuesday January 10, the queenmother registered her disappointment about the manner in which lawlessness have been increasing in the society.
She said whiles government is spending billions of cedis to educate people on the need to ensure clean environment others tend to thwart government efforts citing Madam Emelia as one of such culprits.
The queenmother made an attempt to hand over the trader to the police but timely intervention cooled down her tempers.
She then ordered the P.T.A to assign a portion of the school ‘s park to Emelia to weed to serve as a deterrent to others.
Nana Ama Kyaa III said with immediate effect her administration would no longer tolerate law breakers in the town be the person her family member or not.
