Traditional authorities of Buoho-Krobo threaten action against encroachers on quarry sites

Traditional authorities of Bouho-Krobo in the Afigya Kwabre South in the Ashanti region led by Abusuapanin Akora Poku have warned that they would be forced to take action against landlords who have build houses close to quarry sites in their (authorities) bid to prevent potential disasters when blasting incidentally penetrates the area.

The warning comes after discovery that these encroachers had also taken over buffer zones.

According to Abusuapanin Akora Poku who spoke to the correspondent in an exclusive interview some of the encroachers build their houses in the night and especially when the Assembly is not in session.

Akora Poku lamented that by the time the District Assembly would move a step to inspect the prohibited or unauthorized quarry zones for building structures, the encroachers had either put up houses up to lintel level or completed.

Akora Poku said with such a development pulling down of such structures becomes difficult a situation that have forced the traditional authorities to take a decisive action against those encroachers apparently in their bid to quit them from the area to avoid future disaster when quarry blasting incidentally penetrates the area.

Akora Poku posited that there should be a buffer of 500 meters and I can tell you that some are even below a distance of 20 meters and this is very dangerous.

He called on the government, the regional minister and the District Assembly to immediately intervene to avoid disaster.
