Twifo Hemang Lower Denkyira District Assembly Donates Items To 40 Persons Living With Disabilities.

A total of 40 Persons Living With Disabilities (PWDs) in the Twifo Hemang Lower Denkyira District in the Central region have received various items from the District Chief Executive, Hon. Nana Kweku Abban.

The program, which is second in its kind since he assumed office in February 2024, was financed from the District Assembly Common Fund to help PWDS become self-reliant in the District.

The beneficiaries were provided with deep freezers, bags of charcoal, bags of maize, sewing machines, fufu pounding machines, provisions (assorted items to operate provision stores) and other essential tools aimed at empowering them economically.

In his welcome address, the District Chief Executive (DCE), Nana Kweku Abban, stated that the items, valued at over Ninety Thousand Ghana Cedis (GH¢90,000), are part of a social intervention program designed to help reduce poverty among PWDs, in line with the Disability Act of 2006 (Act 715).

He emphasized that the primary goal of the initiative is to help beneficiaries leave the streets and secure sustainable means of livelihood. The Hon. DCE noted that since the program’s inception, some beneficiaries who previously resorted to street begging have abandoned that attitudes.

He encouraged the recipients to use the items effectively to maximize the benefits of the investment.
The Hon. District Chief Executive also prayed to the members to support the NPP government in this year’s election by voting for H/E Dr. Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia and Mr. Lawrence Kwabena Agyinsam, number one(1) on the ballot paper. He further urged them to also encourage their friends and family to vote massively to show their appreciation to the efforts of the Npp government in the District.

Key among the achievements of the government which the Hon. DCE touched and which has direct benefits for the beneficiaries are the doubling of their allocations in the District Assembly Common Fund, the doubling of the allowance for leap beneficiaries in Ghana, Construction of roads in the District, the Agenda 111 District Hospital project which is completed at Twifo Hemang, fulfilment of the 1D1F promise in the District, the factories are located at Jukwa Mfuom, Ansamanso, and Jukwa Achiase and Jukwa Amanase respectively. Other achievements of the government includes construction of the District Magistrates Court at Twifo Hemang, Expansion of educational infrastructure in all our schools across the District especially at the Jukwa and Twifo Hemang Senior High and Technical Schools respectively and several new infrastructure put up across our Basic Schools in the District.

He also emphasised on the new Bawumia policies for Ghanaians starting 2025, which includes the free tertiary education for all persons living with disabilities, free tertiary education for all cocoa farmers children who will gain admissions to any tertiary institution in Ghana, free Digital Skills/ IT training for over 1000 Ghanaian youths, and the sustainability of the free SHS/free TVET education policies, strengthening of the National Health Insurance Scheme and School feeding Programme which has almost benefited every household in Ghana.

The beneficiaries of the items expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Hon. DCE and the Social Welfare Department, highlighting how the equipment would significantly improve their capacity to earn a living and achieve self-sufficiency.
