In a significant pronouncement that seeks to reshape the discourse around political leadership, former Vice President and flagbearer hopeful of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has asserted that true leadership is founded not on personal wealth
Rather true leadership is founded on a clear vision and ones ability to sustain economic development to the advantage of citizens.
Dr Mahamoud Bawumia made the declaration as part of his ongoing campaign to secure the NPP’s nomination for the upcoming delegates conference positions
Addressing supporters and delegates, Dr. Bawumia came out with a comprehensive definition of leadership, as he asserted that leadership entails a person who has ideas, vision and good policies that can transform the economy.
He drew a sharp distinction between this ideal and the pursuit of political office based solely on financial muscle stressing that any person who relies on his wealth to seek leadership role is a failure.
The former Vice President underscored that personal affluence while perhaps is an indicative of individual success, it cannot guarantee him to become a leader.
Instead Dr. Bawumia hinted that the essence of leadership role has a broader definition which crucially encompass the ability to promote unity, peace, vision and policies that can transform the economy.
Dr Bawumia’s message strongly suggests a shift away from a transactional understanding of politics towards one who is rooted in tangible societal progress and collective well being.
Demonstrating further of his commitment to elevating the standard of political engagement Dr. Bawumia used the platform to caution his opponents against self praises stemming from their wealth and properties.
He advocated for a clean political campaign ahead of the NPP’s delegates’ conference scheduled for January 2026.
He urged his contenders to focus on substantive issues rather than material possessions.
The resonance of Dr. Bawumia’s message appears to be gaining traction within the party.
Information gathered by this correspondent indicates that a significant bloc of sixty Members of Parliament have unanimously endorsed Bawumia’s bid to lead the NPP into the 2028 general elections.
Political watchers interpret this decisive move by the legislators as a testament to Dr. Bawumia’s perceived strengths.
They point to his humility, carefulness in public utterances and his cogent explanations of numerous policies designed to transform the economy as key factors.
These qualities they believe are not only making Bawumia to become a compelling candidate for the party’s mandate but also enhance his prospects of effectively unseating the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the next national elections.
