We can open the boarders on our own if Akuffo Addo fails to do so.
The resident of Ketu South today, Friday, August 27, 2021 staged a massive demonstration against the government. It can be recalled that after the country saw her first cases of Covid-19 in March, the government imposed some restrictions to curb the tide of the pandemic. One of the measures dealt with the closure of the borders of the country. Last year September, the airports were opened raising concerns over when the land borders will be reopened.
This is to say that since March 2020 the land borders have been closed. This is not to say there are no entries. Indeed, it is a known fact that there are many unapproved routes into the country. Today the people of Ketu South under the leadership of Hon. Dzifa Gomashie hit the streets to demonstrate the closure of their borders.
According to those who spoke to Metro TV reporters, their source of livelihood has been lost. They argued that they are unable to feed their families. Some raised arguments as to why the government couldn’t not bring down her equipment and also station them at the borders to do testing rather than lock the borders for 18 months.
One of the interesting comments was when one demonstrator noted that they can open the borders on their own but are waiting for President Akufo-Addo to give a go ahead. He added that the president has been quiet and they might soon change their minds and open the borders on their own.
When asked how they will do that, he smiled and said that they will do what they have to do when the time comes. It will be interesting to see what will happen in the coming days. The Aflao border is the most popular border that gives access to Togo.
