Solomon Owusu, a senior spokesperson for the Movement for Change, has doubts about the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) choice to offer amnesty to suspended members. He thinks this action is a way to win back supporters of Alan Kyerematen who left the party in September 2023.
According to Solomon Owusu, the NPP’s main aim is to use the situation for its own benefit, not to truly make peace with Alan’s followers. He questions whether the NPP’s amnesty offer is sincere, suggesting it may be a trick to convince Movement for Change members to come back and do work that is not worthy of them.
Solomon Owusu explains that he and other members left the NPP when the party was in power, so there is no reason for them to return now that the party is in opposition.
“We left the New Patriotic Party NPP when they were in power; what makes them think we would return now that they are in opposition?” – Solomon Owusu stated.
He reaffirmed the Movement’s dedication to changing Ghana’s politics and becoming a full political party to compete in the 2028 general elections. He made it clear that if they were interested in power, they would have stayed with the NPP. Instead, their focus is on bringing real change to the country’s political system.
