We will not return to Npp, no way -United Party

The newly launched United Party led by Alan John Kwadwo Kyerematen has turned down an amnesty from the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) for former party members to rejoin the NPP.

The leaders of United Party, previously Movement for Change are all former members of the NPP who formed a breakaway faction.

The opposition New Patriotic Party had previously declared that it was prepared to accept the return of those who had left, giving them “amnesty”.

However, at the official unveiling of the United Party, the National Chairman, Abubakar Saddique Boniface, rejected the offer describing it as baseless and w.

He asserts that the NPP has no authority to pardon when Alan Kyerematen and his supporters have not committed any crime that would justify their expulsion.

“We were sacked from the NPP, but today they want to grant us amnesty? What crime did our leader commit? What crime did I commit for you to sack me? And now you are telling me you are giving me amnesty? No way.”

Mr. Boniface likened their exit from the NPP to a final divorce, stressing that reconciliation was no longer possible.

“In Islam, when you divorce a woman three times, she’s no longer your wife until thy kingdom come,” he stated

Following his exit from the NPP in September 2023, former Minister of Trade and Industry, Alan Kyerematen formed the Movement for Change to run as an independent candidate in the 2024 general election.

His resignation from the NPP was due to internal disputes and what he described as unfair treatment within the party.

He subsequently launched the Movement for Change, which has now been rebranded as the United Party as part of efforts to broaden its national appeal ahead of the 2028 general elections.
