Rev. Minister urges pastors to keep politics out of their pulpits Rev. David Armstrong, founder and leader of Mo Mary Fellowship has issued a strong call for pastors to refrain from using their pulpits to engage in “dirty politics. In an exclusive interview, Rev. Armstrong expressed his deep concern about the growing trend of pastors using their churches to preach partisan politics under the guise of religious freedom. He believes that such actions are detrimental not only to the churches themselves, but also to the integrity of the priesthood. He lamented that these attitudes have a negative impact on the noble profession of the priesthood. While acknowledging that pastors as citizens, have the right to make political contributions Rev. Armstrong spoke about the current state of Ghanaian politics. He pointed to the prevalence of hatred, acrimony, greed, hypocrisy, and divisions which have led many to view democracy in Ghana as a negative force. The clergy specifically mentioned the supporters of the two major political parties in the country the NPP and NDC, accusing them of promoting “open discrimination, hatred, and disunity” which hinders peaceful coexistence. Rev. Armstrong highlighted the damaging effect this political climate is having even within churches. He described situations where pastors use their pulpits to promote partisan politics, leading to division and mistrust amongst members with different political affiliations. This, he observed, directly contradicts the word of God and betrays the faith of members, diverting them from true spiritual guidance. Rev. Armstrong stressed that this conduct contravenes the word of God and betrays the trust placed in them by their congregations. He believes that focusing on divisive politics distracts from the core message of faith and unity. This conduct contravenes the word of God and betrays faith of members to deviate from the word of God, he stated, underscoring the importance of his advice. Rev. Armstrong remains hopeful that if pastors heed to his call, it could contribute significantly to the transformation of society. He believes that by setting a positive example they can encourage politicians who involve in “dirty politics” to reconsider their approach and return to a more righteous path.
