Former Managing Editor of the defunct Ghanaian Platform newspaper, Mr King Amoah has stressed the need for the authorities to scrap one of the country’s institutions, Environmental Protection Agency saying that EPA’s existence is a waste of national resources.
King Amoah who also doubles as a Content Writer for Opera News observed that the government though spends billions of cedis to ensure the effective running of the outfit, the agency seems to have failed to discharge its lawful mandate as environmental defenders.
The former editor cited the unprecedented trend of environmental destructions caused by the activities of illegal miners, deforestation scandals and among other attitudes that tend to sideline the promotions of the country’s environment.
King Amoah said the Environmental Protection Agency as its name implies, was established solely to champion the cause of environmental issues in the country.
He asked on whether the current functions of the Agency conforms with the work of environmental experts.
The Agency has virtually become a toothless organ unable to bite, yet government includes it into her budget.
What functions are the staff of such Agency doing to merit them with their monthly rewards, King Amoah queried.
According to the vetran journalist the Agency have even hardly protect our environment in the cities as Ghanaians would be the best judges.
King Amoah related that the negligence of the Agency has given both individuals and organizations the field to take over the environment activities apparently to destroy it for their personal gains.
Today he said, the government itself has lost control to address our environmental menace, and therefore don’t see the need on why EPA should be allowed to exist whilst the nation gains nothing from its existence.
Environmental Protection Agency must be flushed out now because its existence is a waste of national resources, Mr King Amoah concluded.
