The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is preparing to take disciplinary action against senior member and lawyer, Atta Akyea, following his recent public attacks on outspoken politician Kennedy Agyapong. Reports indicate that the party’s Disciplinary Committee has summoned him and is considering a possible suspension over his conduct.
The controversy began after Atta Akyea made remarks deemed inflammatory and disrespectful toward Kennedy Agyapong, comments that quickly triggered reactions within the party. According to party insiders, the leadership believes his statements were not only inappropriate but also damaging to internal unity at a time when the NPP is seeking cohesion ahead of future political engagements.
Sources within the party say the Disciplinary Committee will examine whether Atta Akyea violated the NPP’s code of conduct, which prohibits members from publicly attacking fellow party figures in a manner that brings the party into disrepute. The committee is expected to listen to his defence before making a final recommendation to the party leadership.
While some members argue that Atta Akyea’s comments were personal opinions that should not attract harsh punishment, others insist that strong disciplinary action is necessary to maintain order and prevent similar internal conflicts from escalating publicly.
Kennedy Agyapong has not yet issued an official comment on the matter, though his supporters within the party have welcomed the move as a step toward enforcing discipline and respect among members.
The outcome of the committee’s review will determine whether Atta Akyea faces suspension or a different form of sanction. The NPP is expected to make its decision public once the disciplinary process is completed.
