In their quest to ensure that total peace, unity and stability return to Konongo in the Ashanti region, Nana Obrane Opuni Frimpong (Twafohene for Konongo Stool) Okyeame Kwame Marfo (Senior linguist, Konongo Stool) Nana Kwaku Nkrumah (Abusuapanin Asonahene Konongo Stool) the Royal Family and Kwame Atta Kakra (Abusuapanin in charge of the late Konongo chief Nana Batafo Akyeampong-Nti II, Konongohene’s family) have jointly petitioned the authorities.

The petition letter which was signed by the Twafohene of the Konongo Stool, Nana Obrane Frimpoong and two others was addressed to the Minister of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs

It was also copied to the Ashanti Regional Minister, Interior Minister, Inspector General of Police and the Municipal Chief Executive of the Asante Akyem Municipality.

In their petition letter the aforementioned sub chiefs and elders stated that they are the known personalities behind the Konongo stool.

Stressing that the petition emanated from them and that of the Asona Royal Family of the Konongo Stool.

According to the strength of the petition the late Konongohene Nana Batafo Akyeampong-Ntj II was a chief of Konongo who ruled from 1981 until his demise on the 15th of January, 2022.

The petitioners indicated that when the late Konongohene, Nana Batafo Akyeampong-Nti II died, they been the sub-chiefs and other members of the Royal Family went to the palace of Juabenmanhene to officially informed him as the customs demand.

The petitioners said when they approached Daasebre Otuo Serebour at his palace he stated categorically that he do not recognize the late Konongohene Nana Batafo Akyeanpong-Nti II as the chief of Konongo for the
past thirty-one (31) years that the late chief occupied the stool of Konongo.

Daasebere the sub chiefs said having told them that he do don’t recognized the late Konongo chief Nana Batafo so as he cannot recognize them also as the sub-chiefs to perform any rites on the late chief’s burial.

Nana Otuo Sirebour the petition indicated reportedly after his word mandated one Mr. Oppong Agyare who is a member of the Royal Family, to bury the late chief as an ordinary citizen and brings to him ( Juabenhene) a new person to be installed as Konongohene within two months.

The petition went on that the sub-chiefs and the elders present at that day were very much humiliated and disgraced at Juabenhene’s palace.

When we returned from Juaben we consulted a couple of lawyers and we were advised to take the
matter up to the Regional House of Chiefs.

The petitioners added that for about three years now our petition has only once been called.

Aside from this anytime that a hearing notice is issued the registrar will call or send a WhatsApp message to cancel the scheduled date a day before the hearing, the petition stipulated.

In view of this as we the petitioners, other aggrieved royal family members as well as the community are not happy with this development that have been going on in Konongo hence this petition.

Meanwhile, the purported chief, whose installation we believe to be illegal and against the customs and norms and who is challenged in the petition still styles himself as Konongohene.

We therefore humbly bring to your attention that Dr. Albert Awuah Junior’s, Dr. Nana Awuah Abedimasa’s chieftaincy installation, is being challenged pending hearing and judgement at the Ashanti Regional House of Chiefs.

And that whoever deals with him and his so-called newly installed sub chiefs of Konongo must be cautious to avoid future regrets.

We, the sub chiefs chiefs and elders of Konongo Stool are craving your indulgence to intervene in the matter so that justice can take its course.

Konongo, over the years has been a peaceful town and we cannot afford to lose that dignity.

Finally, we, the petitioners caution the security services in the municipality, especially the police to
work as professionals and should be circumspect in their dealings with the Konongo chieftaincy affairs.

The petitioners furthermore admonish that the security should not indulge in any Mafia games to seek one party’s interest.
