The closely watched primaries, held on Saturday, drew delegates from across the country to select a flagbearer ahead of the 2028 general elections. According to provisional figures released by the party, Mahamudu Bawumia secured a clear majority of the votes cast, emerging victorious after an intense and competitive contest, while Agyapong finished second.

The outcome sparked widespread discussion among party supporters and political observers, many of whom had followed the race closely due to the strong personalities and high stakes involved. Agyapong, known for his outspoken style and grassroots appeal, had mounted an energetic campaign that resonated with a significant section of the party base.

Speaking after the results were announced, he congratulated Dr. Bawumia on his victory and acknowledged the authority of the delegates’ decision. Although he admitted the result was disappointing for him and his supporters, he stressed that he respected the democratic process that guides the party’s internal elections.

He emphasized that competition is a normal part of party politics and that every aspirant must be ready to accept the will of the electorate. According to him, unity and discipline are more important than individual ambition, especially as the party looks ahead to national contests.

Agyapong also used the opportunity to thank his campaign team and loyal supporters across the country, noting that the enthusiasm and backing he received demonstrated that his message connected with many members. He described their commitment as a source of pride and motivation.

Calling for reconciliation, he urged party faithful to put the primaries behind them and rally behind the chosen candidate. Analysts say his conciliatory tone could help ease tensions and strengthen cohesion within the party following the tightly fought race.

As the NPP shifts focus to future electoral battles, Agyapong’s remarks are being viewed as a step toward healing divisions and reinforcing collective resolve for the challenges ahead.
