Cocoa issues in Ghana has become one of the most trending stories in Ghana. It is now a debate between the two major political parties (New Patriotic Party NPP and National Democratic Congress NDC ) to know who caused recent crisis in the cocoa sector.

As a member of the New Patriotic Party NPP, Mr. Awudu Mahama decided to speak the truth and bring an end to the ongoing debate among the two political parties.
Speaking on Ghone TV on Friday, 20th February 2026, Mr. Awudu Mahama made it clear that, the recent cocoa crisis in the sector was caused by them (the New Patriotic Party NPP).
He explained that, the New Patriotic Party NPP mismanaged the cocoa industry before losing the 2024 general elections to the National Democratic Congress NDC. Hence, the NDC government inherited the mess from NPP administration in the cocoa sector.

” We ( The New Patriotic Party NPP) mismanaged the cocoa sector and the National Democratic Congress NDC fix it”. – Awudu Mahama stated.
Currently, Ghana’s cocoa industry is really struggling. Production dropped from 1 million tonnes to 600,000 tonnes in just 4 years. Gov’t is trying to fix things with new rules, like processing more cocoa locally to create jobs and boost the economy.
But challenges are real: aging trees, diseases, illegal mining, and Cocobod’s huge debt of GH¢32.91 billion. Prices are also all over the place globally.
They cut the producer price to GH¢41,392 per tonne, and Ivory Coast might do the same.
