Ghanaians will have to be grateful for the Mahama /Opoku-Agyemang’s Government to recruiting 40,000 youths into the Security Agencies in Ghana.
The strength of our security sector as of 2026 is as follows
Ghana Police Service – 49,000
GNFS – 18,000
Immigration Service – 18,300 and the
Prisons Service – 4,597

What this means is that the total working force of the security sector is 89897
The application received numbered over 500,000. But the Government employing all 500000 means creating 6 time the current security strength we have.
If the NPP had done their part of creating proper jobs, this pressure wouldn’t have happened.

The United States of America with a population of 342 million has Police strength of about 750,000. How can Ghana employ 500,000 police officers for a population of 30 million.?
Internationally, the ideal international standard for police-to-citizen ratios is approximately *1 officer for every 450* citizens to ensure effective safety.
As of 2024–2025, Ghana’s police-to-citizen ratio has improved, with estimates placing it between approximately 1:732, down from higher ratios like 1:808 in 2020.
While the government of John Dramani Mahama aims for the UN recommended 1:450 ratio, the standard police to citizen ratio is which is often considered to be 1:450 or 1 police officer per 450 citizens is being improved .
For a population of 30 million, the numerical strength of police service needed would be: 30,000,000 / 450 = approximately 66,667 police officers
As of March 2025, the Ghana Police Service has a numerical strength of *43,968* officers, consisting of 31,023 males and 12,945 females.
So even if the police service alone received 100,000 applicants, there is no way they can employ all of them.
The decision of the NDC Government to increase recruitment into the service is to meet international standards and the president is considering that hence must be applauded.
The Gallant Cadres of NDC will like to posit whether Bawumia would have employed all 500,000 applicants, Or Bawumia would have sold the forms for Gh10 cedis? We believe that the needless politicization of recruitment into Ghana’s Security Services must cease
