Fresh details have emerged after a disturbing video showing a confrontation between a teacher
and a female student at Nyinahin Catholic
The Ashanti Regional Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a 39-year-old teacher, Eric Buernortey Apaflo, following the incident which sparked widespread outrage.
According to police, the teacher who serves as the hostel caretaker, confronted the 18-year-old student, Patience Chibu, over alleged misconduct involving her and some male students at the hostel.
Investigators say the situation started as a discussion but later escalated into a misunderstanding that led to the teacher physically assaulting the student.
The incident, which was captured on video and widely shared online, triggered anger among students at the school.
Some students reportedly reacted by throwing stones at the teacher, while others allegedly called in youths from the Nyinahin community, raising tension at the hostel.
Police say the situation nearly turned into a bigger clash but was brought under control by a patrol team from the Nyinahin District.
The teacher was arrested on June 8, 2026, at about 7:00 pm and is currently assisting with investigations.
The victim has also been issued a Police Medical Report Form for examination and treatment.
Authorities have urged calm, calling on students and the public to use proper channels in resolving disputes instead of resorting to violence.
The incident has reignited debate about discipline, safety, and conduct in senior high schools across the country.
