Apostle Lilian Kumah, widow of the late Ghanaian politician John Kumah, has dismissed allegations that her husband was poisoned, insisting that his death resulted from a serious blood-related illness.
The former Deputy Finance Minister and Ejisu Member of Parliament died after battling health complications, with his widow maintaining that neither contaminated food nor any form of poisoning was responsible for his death.
In an interview, Apostle Lilian Kumah disclosed that her husband’s medical condition was discovered in August 2023 following medical examinations in Germany. She explained that further assessments conducted by medical professionals in both Germany and Ghana did not reveal any evidence to support claims that he had been poisoned.
Her comments were made in response to allegations attributed to broadcaster Captain Smart, which she described as false, misleading and deeply distressing to the family.
According to Apostle Kumah, her husband remained committed to his responsibilities as a public official despite his deteriorating health. She recalled that he was rushed to Suhum Government Hospital on March 7, 2024, after becoming seriously ill, but efforts to save his life were unsuccessful.
The widow expressed disappointment over the continued circulation of allegations surrounding her husband’s death, saying such claims had caused additional pain to the family as they continued to mourn their loss.
She urged the public to rely on credible medical information rather than speculation and unverified reports about the circumstances surrounding his passing.
Apostle Kumah further maintained that the medical records available to the family provide an explanation for her husband’s death and should help put an end to the persistent rumours.
