My government will not sentence Ghanaians who cause financial loss to the state – says Akua Donkor.
The presidential candidate for Ghana Freedom Party(GFP) Madam Akua Donkor has appealed to the president to release anyone who owes the country from prison.
She said; if someone causes financial loss to the state; he/she should should not be a jailed but rather the state should either confisticate or sell the person’s properties to defray the debts and also allow the person to work, so that the state can get the money back.
Madam Akua Donkor who was speaking to the correspondent in an interview opined that sentencing someone without getting your money back doesn’t make sense.
The state can give the person some period of time to settle that debt, stressing that when she becomes the president, all those people who are owing the state and are facing jail term would be freed so that they can work to settle that debt.
Ghana needs money not prisoners, she pointed out.
Adding that she would soon go to supreme court for a review on the said matter.
How can you put a breadwinner behind bars or jail whiles you can let the person work to refund that amount of money, the politician asked.
