The Chief Executive Officer of the Highway Authority, Ing. Collins Donkor, has called for new ways of financing road construction in Ghana.
According to Ing. Donkor, the usual approach to financing road infrastructure has not yielded the needed expectation. The demand and need for roads in the country far outweighs government’s financial capacity given that the country isn’t able to generate enough revenue that could be diversified into the road sector.
Ing. Donkor further argues that, donor supports have not also been able to aid Ghana to deliver on road infrastructure demands. The situation leaves a huge financing gap which must be closed.
Speaking during the official launch of the Ghana Highways Authority’s 50th Anniversary earlier today, Ing. Donkor intimated that there is a need to urgently find sustainable and innovative means of financing roads.
