Dunkwa-On-Offin Nursing And Midwifery Training College observes 12th Matriculation Day.

The Principal of the Dunkwa – On – Offin Nursing And Midwifery Training College in the Central Region, Dr David Ben Sampson has disclosed that it was worrying that since January 30th 2009 the outfit was running only one programme which was Health Assistant Clinical (HAC).

He said in those days the health institution had a population of 80 students with 12 staff including teaching and non teaching staff respectively.

Speaking at the 12th Matriculation program of the school, the Principal said the institute is growing from strength to strength especially in terms of training and mentoring nurse and midwives for communities and mother Ghana.

Dr Sampson expressed his gratitude that currently the College runs four programmes he mentioned them as Registered general Nursing (RGN) Registered Midwifery (RM ) Nurse Assistant Clinical (previously Health Assistant Clinical) and post NAC / NAP respectively.

He said the school presently also boast of a total student population of 2,122 and 104 teaching and non teaching staff who are managing affairs with the help of the College Advisory Board, stakeholders among others.

The Principal said out of the three thousand four hundred and fifty (3,450) candidates for the four (4) main programmes run by the college, Nine hundred and fifty three (953 ) were fortunate to be admitted into the college through a highly competitive selection interview process and officially sealed their admission through the matriculation ceremony.

Dr Sampson indicated that the breakdown of the candidates according to the programs, are Registered general nursing (RGN) Male 103 Female 310 total 413 Nurse Assistant Clinical Male 33 Female 239 272 Registered Midwifery (RM) Male 136 female 817, 953 .

He encouraged the tutors to put in their best in terms of effective teaching and learning activities to achieve their academic nursing and midwifery professional training goals through mentoring, coaching and counselling.

Dr Sampson stressed the need for the tutors to play their roles as expected to enable them see the light at the end of the tunnel.

He advised the students who may encounter any form of challenges to contact the counseling unit of the College for assistance.

He charged the Students Representative Council (SRC) and the leadership to move a step forward to work hard and sensitize the students at all levels to take their academic tasks seriously to prevent some of the negative occurrence such as poor performance and misconduct.

This is because SRC promotes the welfare of the students, Dr Sampson hinted.

Mr. Ebenezer Forson Appiah Municipal Chief Executive for the area commended the Management, Advisory board and the stakeholders for the achievements that they have so far scored for the school.

He took the opportunity to commend the Principal for the success so far chalked by the school, saying that the College under his ( Principal) leadership has grown from a very humble beginning to it’s present enviable state.

The Mce urged the Dr Sampson not to relent on his effort to go beyond all the challenging frontiers to achieve higher laurels for the college, the Municipality and Denkyiraman as whole.

He said the Assembly also gave initial support of two Hundred (200) bags of cement to the College and promised to do more at the appropriate time.

The principal spoke about the Kitchen and Dining hall problems confronting the college and I assure that plans are far advanced to solve them, the MCE told the gathering
