NORTHERN REGIONAL COALITION YOUTH OF NDC
“Political Bias – Dr. Abdulai Abukari and his administrator have shamelessly used their offices to promote NPP-affiliated agendas while sidelining competent and qualified NDC professionals, dismantling fairness and professionalism in the Northern Region’s health sector.”*
Immediate Removal of Dr. Abdulai Abukari: Restoring Integrity and Competent Leadership in the Northern Region’s Health Sector*
The Northern Region’s health sector stands at a dangerous crossroads, paralyzed by the failed and unethical leadership of Dr. Abdulai Abukari, the Regional Health Director. His tenure is a disturbing tale of gross incompetence, blatant political partisanship, and authoritarian management that has derailed progress and destroyed public confidence in the healthcare system.
Political Bias Over Professionalism*
Dr. Abukari has brazenly turned his office into a political tool for advancing the interests of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) rather than the well-being of the people he is supposed to serve. His open campaigning for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in 2016 and ongoing partisan activities have flagrantly violated the principles of neutrality, fairness, and professionalism required of public officials. Such blatant political bias has compromised trust in the health sector and alienated capable professionals aligned with the NDC.
Toxic and Divisive Leadership*
Dr. Abukari has fostered a workplace culture characterized by division, fear, and hostility. Staff morale is at an all-time low due to his autocratic and oppressive management style, which has stifled innovation, discouraged collaboration, and crippled critical health interventions. The Directorate, under his leadership, has become a toxic environment where competence is ignored in favor of political loyalty, resulting in diminished productivity and ineffective healthcare delivery.
*Gross Incompetence and Mismanagement*
The Northern Region continues to face critical health challenges that require bold, innovative leadership. However, under Dr. Abukari’s supervision, resources have been woefully mismanaged, lifesaving initiatives neglected, and preventable health crises allowed to spiral out of control. His inability to address even the most basic healthcare needs reflects a shocking level of incompetence that has left the people of the region vulnerable and underserved.
*Consultation with the NDA Yaa Naa*
It is imperative that the Director-General of the Ghana Health Service, in consultation with the NDA Yaa Naa, the overlord of Dagbon, ensures that the Northern Region is led by a health director who embodies integrity, competence, and a commitment to the welfare of the people. Respect for traditional leadership and local governance must guide the appointment of a new leader who will restore unity and accountability to the health sector.
*Demand for Immediate Action*
We demand the immediate transfer and removal of Dr. Abdulai Abukari and his administrator to prevent further damage to the region’s healthcare system. This action is non-negotiable. The people of the Northern Region deserve leaders who prioritize healthcare over political expediency, professionalism over partisanship, and public welfare over personal ambition.
The stakes have never been higher. The future of healthcare in the Northern Region cannot and must not be sacrificed to political bias, gross incompetence, and a toxic leadership culture. We call on the Director-General of the Ghana Health Service, the NDA Yaa Naa, and all relevant authorities to act decisively and immediately. The time for leadership change is now.
