Dr. Peter Terkper, a renowned economist and policy analyst, has stated that the Ghanaian economy urgently needs confidence. In an interview with Kessben Media, Dr. Terkper emphasized that the economy has struggled in recent years, leading to a decline in investor and business owner confidence.
He noted that the external environment has lost confidence in the economy, resulting in the withdrawal of investments, which has placed a significant burden on the economy. However, Dr. Terkper observed that the situation has slightly improved.
Dr. Terkper also expressed optimism about the newly approved Finance Minister, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, describing him as highly intelligent in finance, with valuable experience in both government and the private sector. Dr. Terkper believes that Dr. Forson’s expertise will benefit the economy.
He also highlighted that ,In Regards to the 7-member committee established by the President, Dr. Terkper considered it a good initiative. However, he questioned whether the government would have the political will to implement the committee’s recommendations, given the current funding challenges.
Dr. Terkper further emphasized the importance of collaboration between the government and the private sector. He suggested that the government should develop policies to protect and support private businesses, particularly in the context of a 24-hour economy.
Lastly , Dr. Terkper urged the government to take immediate action to address the key challenges facing the private sector, industries, and other economic sectors. By doing so, the government can develop a strategic plan to transform the economy and restore confidence.
