C.E.O Of Mama Africa Appeals To Gov’t For Tax Relief On Import Duties Slap On NGO’s.

The Chief Executive Officer. (CEO) of a Kumasi based Non Governmental Organization (NGO) Mama Africa, Mr Maxwell Donkor has passionately appealed to the government to as a matter of national interest, reduce the high import duties slap on NGO’s when they import goods from the foreign countries.

Mr Donkor explained that goods that are imported by the NGO’s are not used for commercial activities, but rather for charity works and as such should be considered them as tax free goods.

He stressed that when such goods like educational materials reach at the Ports, import duties calculated on them for its clearances become an obstacle to the NGO’s, hence the appeal for government intervention.

Mr Maxwell Donkor made the appeal when he was taking newsmen round to see the progress work on an ultra modern dormitory project Mama Africa is undertaking for the Garden City Special School for free at Asokore Mampong in the Ashanti Region.

The project according to the CEO, Mr Donkor would be completed by the end of July this year and handed over to the school’s authorities.

Currently the project is about 70% completed, as the remaining flooring, plastering, power and water connections and other fixtures are ongoing.

Mr Donkor indicated that his NGO believes in education, since education is the key to civilization and national development.

We desire that the students live comfortably and have peace of mind to study and complete their school to become responsible assets and contribute their quota towards national development, Mr Donkor hinted,

On the occasion, Mr Maxwell Donkor appealed to other NGO’s to develop interest in their communities and support them in kinds since government alone cannot contain every challenges in the country.
